I had a long gap of close to 7 years in my career due to personal reasons. I did not have experience working in the US either. So, I thought that my job search would be tough and the advice that I always got from people was to take what I get and start somewhere. I was not prepared to start an entry level position as I had prior experience in clinical research but in another country. I just did not know how to navigate the process of job search in this country. I wasn’t sure about how to face interviews or make the resume to cater to the positions here in the US. I was also confused about choosing the right field within clinical research. All in all, I was very confused and did not have the right guidance to kick start my career here in the US.
I happened to discuss my situation with one of my friends and she suggested getting help from a career coach. I had never heard about this, but it sounded very interesting. My friend then told me about ECS as she had taken help from ECS. I had a call with the career coach at ECS and she explained what they do and how they help people like me. Frankly speaking I was very skeptical in the beginning but then realized that my options were limited and decided to go on with the training. Now that I look back, I think that was the best decision that I ever made.
Initially I had a session with the coach, and she explained what the branches within pharma are and what are the skill sets and qualifications required to work in each branch. Upon further exploration I decided to proceed with the clinical development stream. Excel Career Services offers a comprehensive course in clinical development, resume preparation services and interview preparation. I gained excellent knowledge about the clinical scientist role and clinical development as a field. I was taught data review, data cleaning, protocol writing, medical monitoring and operational aspects involved in clinical development. After completing the course, I felt confident about being a clinical scientist if given an opportunity.
My job searches took some time, but the career coach was so encouraging and told me to not lose hope. I had many mock interviews and was waiting for one opportunity to get an interview with a company. The career coach prepared me so well that I was able to get a Clinical Scientist job in the first interview I got, which was amazing. Even after I got the offer, I found it difficult to believe it. I had waited for so long for this opportunity and to have a career in the US. Excel Career Services made my dream of working in the US a reality. I am so happy to be working as a clinical scientist in a pharma company in the US. My confidence developed immensely in these few months that I was associated with Excel Career Services. If you feel you want to work in clinical research and feel you are not sure what is right for you, just contact Excel Career Services. They will make sure you find a job that is right for you. I wholeheartedly recommend Excel Career Services .I am sure in the future they will help many more people like me.
